Breakfast Sandwiches With Maple Mustard Dill Sauce

This is a sponsored post. I was compensated financially by Egg Farmers of Canada. All opinions about eggs are my own.

Eggs are my go-to when it comes to breakfast. You can’t go wrong with poached, scrambled, or my personal favourite - gently fried in a little olive oil so we get those glorious crispy edges. Healthy, delicious, versatile, I love waking up to some yellow! So, when I was asked by Egg Farmers of Canada to attend a unique pop-up egg farmer’s market in downtown Saskatoon on May 31st, I immediately said yes. I think eggs are absolutely glorious. Always free of added steroids and hormones, and with six grams of the highest-quality protein and fourteen important vitamins and nutrients like iron, folate and vitamins A, D, and B12, eggs are a natural, delicious way to start my day. A dozen eggs are always in my shopping cart (I love that you can find them everywhere from big box stores to tiny convenience stores), and I go through them like crazy around here. Blended into Dutch baby or crepe batter, whisked into pancake mix, or cooked sunny side up for a tasty breakfast sandwich, I always know my day is going to be great when it starts off with eggs.

Best of Yule: Holiday Favourites

So two months is too long to not have popped in here to say hi.  Let's just say October and November were off the charts busy, but now I'm finding a quiet moment on a Mid-December afternoon to say hi.  I've got a little Baileys in my coffee (because it's December), and a gingerbread cookie (or two)  keeping the coffee company.  My old grey cat is curled up in a ball by my feet and when the furnace cuts out I can hear her purring.  It's cozy, to say the least.  The last few days have been particularly awesome around here.  I received my first royalty cheque in the mail (!!!) - and it was a pretty darn good feeling to tuck it away into my savings account.  Huge thanks to everyone who has purchased my cookbooks far this year.  I wish I could hug you all!  And!  I found out that All the Sweet Things won a Gourmand World Cookbook Award!  My cookbook won the national competition in the Best First Book category and will go on to represent Canada at the Gourmand Awards Ceremony in China May 2018.  Exciting stuff!  No, I won't be going to China to cheer it on - but my heart and spirit will definitely be there.  What a wonderful early Christmas present!

Chocolate Gingerbread Beer Bundt Cake

If I tell you there is dry mustard in this cake, will you believe me?  I hope so, because it's 100 percent true.  I know!  Dry mustard in a cake - who would have thought?  But it's one of the reasons I wanted to try this cake out.  Well, that and the beer.  Beer in cake too?  This is crazy talk.  I've put beer in bread and in barbecue sauce and down the gullet, but never in chocolate cake.  But 'tis the season of St. Patrick, so why not?  When you've been baking cakes as long as I have, it's cool to shake things up and see what the heck will happen.  I can tell you this cake started out by giving me grief, but there was a happy ending.  And that's all that matters, right?
